Pelvic Pain in Men

Pelvic pain in men, often linked to pelvic floor dysfunction, affects around 10% of the male population. Unfortunately, misdiagnosis, typically as prostatitis, leads to inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions. Recognizing the importance of accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment, experts emphasize the role of specialized physical therapy in alleviating pelvic pain in men. Rather than resorting to antibiotics that may prove ineffective, a tailored approach focusing on strengthening pelvic floor muscles has emerged as a more effective solution.

Beyond the physical challenges, the stigma surrounding male pelvic health issues contributes to delayed treatment due to feelings of shame and embarrassment. Breaking down societal barriers and promoting awareness of effective solutions, such as targeted physical therapy, is crucial in empowering men to address pelvic pain without fear of judgment.

Common Causes of Male Pelvic Pain

  • Surgical trauma (vasectomy, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) interventions, prostatectomy)

  • Orthopedic injuries or other traumas (spine, hip, knee, and/or ankle injuries/pathology, accidents)

  • Biomechanical or structural dysfunction (hip dysfunction, piriformis syndrome, scoliosis, leg length discrepancy)

  • Excessive exercise or changes to exercise routine

  • Excessive sitting

  • Chronic constipation and straining

  • Jelqing and/or attempts at genital enhancement or foreskin regeneration

  • In rare cases, bladder, prostate, or sexually transmitted infections after successful resolution of infection

"After Prostate Cancer my urologist prescribed therapy. It was the best thing that I ever could have done to get back to normal as fast as possible. They have an absolutely incredible staff all who are dedicated to the patient's well-being."
