Myofascial
Release Therapy

Fascia is a combination of collagen, elastin, and water within the body that is intertwined together. It holds the structure of the body together and allows for cellular communication. It is found throughout the body in one continuous web of tissue that travels from our head to our feet.

Fascia occurs at many different depths in the body, including:

  • Just below the skin

  • Surrounding the bones, blood vessels, nerves, organs, and muscles

  • Surrounding the nervous system (in the dura mater)

Chronic pain, trauma, surgical operations, and stress can contribute to restrictions within the fascia. These restrictions lead to pain, decreased flexibility, and muscle weakness.

When fascia is restricted, electron conduction within the tissues is impaired. Myofascial release allows the tissues to resume electron flow which creates an environment that promotes healing.

How Does Myofascial Release Therapy Work?

Myofascial release therapy utilizes gentle, firm, and sustained pressure to release tension and restrictions within the fascia. This treatment is non-invasive and can be performed throughout the entire body. At the start of your session, your provider will work with you to identify the most stiff areas of your body that contributes to your pain. Cupping may also be utilized to assist in the release of fascia.

During this Myofascial Release Therapy sessions, there will be no performance of direct treatment to the pelvic floor or specialized physical therapy techniques.
